Current Trends in Photography from the 1970s to the Present

2007-2021

Open to photography enthusiasts of all levels, this workshop examines major trends in photography from the 1970s to the present through a series of thematic approaches. Designed not only for amateur and professional photographers but for anyone interested in art and photography, the workshop introduces participants to a range of photographers and approaches, inviting them to explore how the boundaries of photography have expanded over the past four to five decades.

'Current Trends in Photography from the 1970s to the Present' focuses on questions surrounding “individual vision” and “personal language” in photography: what they mean, how they can be developed, and how one can effectively translate their own energy, abilities, and interests into photographic work. Examples from the history of photography, particularly contemporary movements that have emerged since the 1970s, are examined through different themes. The work of influential figures ranging from Stephen Shore and Cindy Sherman to Alec Soth and Gregory Crewdson is explored, alongside documentary films about photographers and comparisons across different periods.

With content that is continuously updated, 'Current Trends in Photography from the 1970s to the Present' has been held numerous times since 2007 in Istanbul, Ankara, Izmir, and Bursa, bringing together participants at different levels, from high school students to advanced amateur photographers.
