'Portfolio Reviews I', the first of the discussion- and production-based photography programmes organised in collaboration between GAPO and SALT, brought photographers with different interests and approaches together with reviewers working as editors, curators, artists, gallerists, and educators.

Designed to give participants an opportunity to share their work with experienced reviewers and receive feedback on how they might develop their practices conceptually or in terms of execution, 'Portfolio Reviews I' was offered free of charge to make it accessible to a broad range of participants. Following a portfolio-based review of 57 applications, 24 participants were selected and met individually with three reviewers for 20-minute sessions, with the reviewers assigned according to their stated preferences.

Erik Vroons, editor of GUP and Newdawn magazines, who came to Istanbul for 'Portfolio Reviews I', was also a guest at Look Who’s Here? at SALT Beyoğlu on 17 April, where he gave a talk on how photography publishing is reinventing itself today. The talk was followed by a presentation of a selection of photographers featured in the New Dutch Photography Talent catalogues published between 2012 and 2015.
